When the snow comes, it is time to hit the indoor arena! WDMSC organizes a highly successful Futsal league that is designed to provide players with the opportunity to develop their skills, while having fun, during the winter months. The skills developed in this game are visible in the world-famous style the Brazilians display outdoors on the full-sized field. The Futsal league provides players of various abilities (i.e. Recreational, Academy, Select) and ages (i.e. 7-18) with the opportunity to play in challenging games and keep their skills sharp during the winter months.
Fut what? FUTSAL! Futsal is a form of indoor soccer (Five-a-Side Soccer) which can be traced back to Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1930. The word Futsal was derived from the Portuguese phase futebol de salao, which basically translates to indoor soccer. Futsal is played on a hard basketball-sized court, without the use of sidewalls. There are 5 players on the court for each team, including the goalkeeper. If a ball goes out of bounds on the side line, it is put back into play with a kick in. The ball used in futsal is weighted and smaller than a regular ball – referred to as a futsal ball. Some popular international players such as Rohaldiniho and Ronaldo started their soccer careers on the futsal court. Futsal is a fast and exciting game which develops fundamental foot skills and fosters creativity on and off the ball.
