WDMSC Freedom Royal Wins U12 Division at Toyota Cup

West Des Moines Freedom Royal was undefeated in the Iowa Soccer Association’s Toyota Cup Indoor Tournament.  It was an exciting weekend for coaches Melody Carroll and Eric Sanders as they coached three teams (Pink, White and Royal) for the tournament. Freedom Royal had to play it’s two sister teams in order to win the tournament.  It was particularly exciting when Pink played Royal in the semi-final game.  The game was tied and went to a shootout.

Freedom Royal defeated Ankeny, Cedar Rapids Soccer Association (CRSA), Freedom White and Freedom Pink to advance to the finals against Mason City Spirit.

Melody said “I’m so proud of all of my players, everyone played well and the parents were great.  It’s tough when we play against our own teams, but the parents are always encouraging to all the girls and cheer for both teams.  I appreciated that many of the players would stay and watch each others games.   It was a great weekend.  Go Freedom!”

Three WDMSC Boys Teams Win at Toyota State Cup

The West Des Moines U12 coed teams, Arsenal and Juventus dominated the Iowa Soccer Association Indoor Championships on March 3rd and 4th. After a delay and change in schedule due to the wicked winter storm that hit Iowa on Friday, the two teams trekked to the Jacobsen Practice field on the Iowa State University Campus in Ames. Arsenal won 2-1 vs. Ames, 3-0 vs. Iowa City Soccer Club (ISC) Fire White and 4-0 vs. Ankeny.  Juventus battled Cedar Rapids Soccer Association (CRSA), ISC Fire Blue and Waukee's VSA. While Juventus lost to CRSA, they advanced to the finals after beating ISC Fire Blue and VSA. Having all of his players advance to the finals was a special victory for coach Billy Scott.

Scott said,  "It's nice to be able to mix the players and rotate them between teams from time to time.  This means that one week a player will be on a Juventus and another week they may be on Arsenal.  It was great to have all my players make it to the final.  Even though Arsenal was the victor of the final game, I think all the players were winners. I want to thank players Williams and Harlow for joining in the tournament as guests from the U13 WDM United team.  With extra players we could mix it up on the field and keep everyone fresh.  The hard work and dedication from the players and parents is one of the greatest things about this group."

Arsenal is in white, Juventus in royal.

The U13 WDMSC United team defeated Ames 8-0, Iowa City Galaxy3-2, Ankeny 3-2 and Iowa City to advance to the finals where they faced Iowa City Galaxy a second time.

U14 Fire was undefeated in tournament play to win the championship at the Toyota Cup.
